ALTERED PERSPECTIVES

by MAJEL GARDZELEWSKI & LISA KINNEY

Majel Gardzelewski is a fine poet. Lisa Kinney is a skilled photographer. But when they strike these two things together, like flint and steel, sparks result. The sisters have selected photographs, mostly Lisa’s, and poems, mostly Majel’s, and paired them together for us. Some of these pairs are connected, each giving the other depth and dimension. And isn’t this what art is all about? Others of these pairings are not so obvious, requiring us to think and consider. And isn’t this also what art is all about? Some of these combinations of poem and picture are so disparate that we are reduced to appreciating the simplicity of Majel’s steady faith and the simplicity of Lisa’s vision. In that simplicity, we find common ground. And isn’t that what art is all about as well? - Tim Pelton, author of Headfirst, and Skating with Shirley and Other Stories This little tome offers ideas and images for growing in the grand and mysterious schemes surrounding us all. And it offers much inspiration for those who can both spell and embrace the ecclesiastical. It is a generous feast of thought food and ideas for revolving an unfortunate turn toward a blessing. This is the whole of life: grandchildren and dogs and cats, bison, baseball and Beethoven, lemon trees and pumpkin robbers. It challenges the assertion that one should not sweat the small stuff, but at the same time calls for all to wait for and discover "rapturous amusement" through the "storms of life.“ Pembroke Woodhink Altered Perspectives is an astonishing collection of poems with words and photographs that serve an extraordinary purpose. Gardzelewski and Kinney have thoughtfully conceived and brilliantly presented their offerings with an enduring message that will stick with the reader long after they have finished the book. - Steven W. Horn, Author of the award winning Sam Dawson Mysteries
