THE MINING MUSE

by MARC DARNELL

This collection is a mixture of formal and free verse poems, lyrical and imagistic, on a wide range of topics-- from personal tragedy, mental illness, introspection, and heartbreak to everyday ennui, despair, and homage to familiar objects. Some bite with sarcasm and dark humor, while others boldly turn surreal in their wanderings or dig deep to be critical of the common ideas people accept. The muse behind these poems unearths delicate and raw emotions, exposing them delicately or rawly, but with a refined voice, a common thread running through of an unquiet heart that wants to be listened to and accepted.
